What is Alpha-Gal?
Alpha-Gal is an IgE mediated hypersensitivity response to galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose. That is a big old mouthful for a sugar found in mammals except for humans. Naturally triggered by tick bites, the tick saliva has a similar structure to the harmless Alpha-Gal. The body thinks it is being invaded and then mounts an immune response, resulting in symptoms such as hives and digestive distress. This alone is bad enough, but then the body creates an anti-body to alpa-gal which is best described as a “memory” of the initial invasion. So now every time you eat meat, the body “remembers” triggering that same reaction. Without treatment this occurs every time someone eats meat, for the rest of their lives!
Unlike typical food allergies that react immediately, IgE reactions often occur 2–6 hours after consuming animal meat or products with meat in them, causing difficulty in recognizing the true cause of these life changing symptoms.
People can experience a dizzying number of reactions that can take months or even years to diagnose. Expectations
Absence Of Symptoms
SAAT® can and often results in a complete absence of Alpha-Gal symptoms, even in severe cases that have been present for years.
The Process
The SAAT® treatment is typically repeated 3-10 times until maximum improvement is achieved. At that time, a maintenance regimen is usually prescribed to prevent regression. Maintenance may be as few as 1-2 times per year.
